Art Foundation courses in Britain, David HOCKNEY (b. 1937)

CONSTRAINT : to cover a wide field of vision by the consecutive accumulation of smaller fields.

INVENTION : composite photocollage of one scene made by gluing onto one sheet of cardboard all the prints from one 35mm film (c. 1970s). Time is discontinous over surface area, which for some is not an epiphenomenon but the primary constraint.

WORKS : by children and young adults up and down the country and D. Hockney (who also takes polaroids so as to see the work in progress).
